The 6-year-old-girl, Hawa’u, whose genitals were mutilated by ritual suspect in Jama’are Local Government Area of Bauchi State has been discharged from hospital after undergoing successful reconstructive surgery.
It would be recalled that the suspects, 20-year-old Adamu Abdul Ra’uf and 19-year-old Abdukadir Wada Haladu last December, lured the child into an uncompleted building where they cut off her genitals for ritual purposes. Read previous report HERE HERE and HERE
Governor Bala Mohammed had donated N1m for the commencement of her treatment at the Aminu Kano University Teaching Hospital in Kano.
Hauwa’u and her parents recently paid a thank you visit to the Governor and his wife, Dr. Aisha Bala Mohammed at the government house.
On receiving Hauwa’u and her parents, the first lady used the occasion to call on parents to be more vigilant on their wards since the society was no longer friendly towards children.
She added that the responsibility of the state government to protect lives and prosperity were rather a collective one.
On his part, Governor Bala said, who stated that communities must stand up to stop “this dehumanising act of savagery”, said the government could not do it alone.
He advised the parents to make sure that they don’t allow little Hawa’u to be alone or to be sent on errands or to be out of sch
Bauchi State Commissioner of Health Doctor Aliyu Mohammed Maigoro said with the paediatric, Gynaecologist and Urologist managing Hauwa’u case for the period of 65 days, it has been certified that Hauwa’u is now okay and has since returned home on 8th of April for other integration.
Bauchi State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Hajara jibril Gidado stated that Governor Bala has not only taken care of Hauwa’u’s treatment but has also given her parents some support as well as a scholarship from her primary to tertiary level.
Hauwa’u and her parents also received gifts from the Bauchi State Governor.
