Enyimba football club of Aba drew 1-1 with Rivers United at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos on Sunday night, June 11 to claim a ninth Nigeria Premier League title.
The draw with Rivers United who won the 2022 NPFL title means that the People’s Elephant topped the NPFL Super Six playoffs table with nine points from five games.
Enyimba, coached by former Super Eagles winger, Finidi George looked a whole different side this season and it was clear from the get-go they were the team to beat this season.
Enyimba who have won the CAF Champions League twice, took the lead against Rivers United through Ekenne Awazie six minutes before half time after terrible defending from the Porthacourt based club.
A counter attacking dominating fight back from Rivers United, resulted in a goal three minutes after the break.
The match ended 1-1 and Enyimba were crowned Champions and will be given the cash prize of N100m
Remo Stars finished with same points as Enyimba but had to make do with second position owing to inferior goal difference.
Enyimba alongside Remo Stars will now represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League next season.
