The family of a 13-year-old victim of attempted ritual killing in Sagbama, Bayelsa state, has alleged that they have been threatened by some persons in bid to frustrate their quest for justice.
The family disclosed this when some executives of FIDA Bayelsa paid a visit to the victim in the hospital last week.
It would be recalled that detectives of Bayelsa State Police Command in collaboration with youths of Sagbama community arrested three 15-year-old boys for attempted ritual killing of Endeley Comfort.
The suspects namely; Emomotimi Magbisa, Perebi Aweke, and Eke Prince, all natives of Sagbama community, allegedly accosted the victim, hypnotised her to follow them to the apartment of Emomotimi Magbisa in Sagbama Community, cut her finger and sprinkle the blood on a mirror for ritual purposes.
However, vigilant youths noticed the suspicious movements of the suspects and raised an alarm. The suspects were subsequently arrested and some substances suspected to be charms were recovered from them.
The suspects confessed to the crime while the victim was rescued and rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
Chairperson of FIDA Bayelsa State Chapter, Deme D. Pamosoo Esq (Mrs) the Vice chairperson – Ebiere E. Ekpese Esq and the Publicity Secretary – Aima .W. Borisei Esq. (Mrs) paid a visit to the victim in the Sagbama General Hospital.
A statement signed by the Publicity Secretary, Barrister Borisei, the O/C of the Anti- Kidnapping Unit of the Bayelsa State Police Command, provided a police officer from its unit to accompany the Exco members visiting Sagbama community. It reads;
“The OC Anti kidnapping has assured FIDA BAYELSA that on their part they will be going for a further arrest of another suspect linked to this case. After which, they will institute an action in a competent court. That they are very happy FIDA BAYELSA has shown keen interest in this sensitive criminal matter involving underaged.”
“In the course of this visit, Fida Bayelsa Exco members discovered that some persons threatened the victim’s family, to frustrate their quest in seeking justice
“At this point, the Exco members reinterated Fida’s mandate of preserving, protecting, promoting and upholding the well being and rights of venerable women and children in the society
“The Chairperson also assured the victim’s family that justice will be served and that any person who tries to obstruct the administration of justice would be prosecuted.
“The mother of the victim was on ground as well as other family members, including the Uncle of the victim, who said he’s like a father to the victim.
“The mother narrated that the victim was rushed to the hospital again, a day before due to complaints of pains and general weakness.
“The doctor on duty assured us that they were doing their best to help her recover as much as they can. It was discovered that related incidents have been brought to the hospital but the families of such victims later settle the cases. The Doctor as well as the family of the victim was happy that Fida Bayelsa is interested in the matter and prays that Justice be done
“The mother prayed that the Government and well meaning Bayelsans come to their aid, as she is a widow taking care of seven children.”
