Men of the Gombe state police command have arrested one Ahmadu Ibrahim and his co-accomplices for allegedly kidnapping and killing a 17-year-old student after his father failed to pay the sum of N700,000 ransom.
At a press briefing held at the state command headquarters, the command’s spokesperson, ASP Mahid Muazu Abubakar, said the suspects were arrested following a formal complaint by the father of the victim, Alhaji Ahmadu Yaya of Arawa Quarters Gombe.
Muazu said on 30th October 2023, the distraught father of the deceased reported at the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command that on the same date, some unknown persons called and informed him that they kidnapped his son, Al Amin Alhaji Ahmadu, and demanded the sum of N5 million as ransom.
The father further revealed that his son Alamin is a student of Ubaida Academy Arawa who left home on an errand and didn’t return till the time he received the call demanding N5 million as ransom for his release.
The Police Public Relations Officer however said on receipt of the complaint, the anti-kidnapping unit led by the O/C Anti Kidnapping swung into action and succeeded in arresting the above-named suspect and immediately commenced an investigation. He added that further investigation revealed that Ahmadu Ibrahim who works at a rice mill company under the father of the victim was the mastermind behind the kidnapped of the victim.
“The suspect confessed to having kidnapped the 17-year-old Alamin and taken him to Lijji Hill but later confirmed to have killed him following the failure of his father to pay the ransom of N700,000 naira as earlier agreed through phone negotiation, Suspects are under our custody and will be charged to court for prosecution,”
The PPRO further identified the remaining suspects as, Ahmadu Ibrahim Bello ‘m’ 25yrs, Babuka Mohammed Abubakar ‘m’ 35yrs Abdulsalam Mohammed ’m’ 28yrs, Muhammadu Abubakar ’m’ 28yrsAll of Liji Quarters Gombe.
