Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi has revealed he tried to convince his Crystal Palace teammate, Eberechi Eze to feature for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
England Head-coach Gareth Southgate gave Eze a call-up ahead of their Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia this month for his fine form after the 24-year-old scored 10 goals and made four assists in the Premier league last season
Speaking ahead of the Super Eagles 2023 AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone, Iwobi however said he wish him all the best with the Three Lions.
“I spoke to Ebere Eze to try and come but then obviously he’s never had the opportunity to come but I wish him all the best with England as well,” Iwobi said on Brila FM on Thursday, June 15.
The Everton star however expressed confidence that Chuba Akpom will get his chance with the Super Eagles.
The former Arsenal striker finished as top scorer last season in the Championship with 28 goals from 38 appearances.
“That’s up to the coach in his selection unfortunately it’s very difficult because of the strikers we have who are on form.
“I’m sure hopefully he will get a chance because he’s had a great season but it’s very difficult for the coach to pick strikers to come. He just has to be patient I’m sure he’ll get his chance.”
