Dr. Innocent Barikor, running mate of the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Rivers state, has reportedly been attacked by gunmen.
Barikor was attacked after leaving his office at GRA on Tuesday night for a meeting in an undisclosed location.
The Nation reported that his police orderly was not fortunate as the gunmen shot and killed him on the spot. It was also disclosed that Barikor was attacked in front of a popular nightclub in GRA.
A source said;
“Barikor escaped by the whiskers but his police orderly was not fortunate because the bullets hit and killed him on the spot.”
The Deputy Publicity Secretary of APC, Darlington Nwauju, confirmed that the party’s running mate was attacked by “assassins” lamenting that his police orderly was killed in the incident.
Nwauju called for a thorough investigations into the incident and asked the Inspector-General of Police to weigh in.
Commenting on the incident, Police spokesperson in Rivers state Grace Iringe-Koko said it was not a case of assassination.
She said;
“It was not an assassination. Actually, a policeman was shot. I think he was the target because they saw him with a rifle. Nothing happened to the candidate. We are investigating the incident and the place has been surrounded”.
