The Kano State Police Command has arrested a notorious armed robber, one Mahmud Ibrahim.
Spokesperson of the command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who diisclosed this in a statement on Monday, August 16, said the 26-year-old suspect confessed to have committed series of armed robberies alone for over two years in Kano and Niger State.
In the video posted by the command, the suspect also confessed to have started robbing with knives before he upgraded to using a gun he stole from a house he robbed, adding that his father had chased him away from home.
“On the 15/08/2021 at about 0300 hours, we received a distress call that an armed robber with a gun attacked a resident in his house located at Kuyan Ta’inna Town, Kumbotso LGA, Kano State. Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, raised and instructed a team of Policemen led by SP Suleiman Ibrahim, Divisional Police Officer, Panshekara Division to proceed to the scene and arrest the culprit,” Kiyawa stated.
“The team immediately swung into action and with the help of members of the community, arrested the suspect, one Mahmud Ibrahim, ‘m’, aged 26 years, of Kurna Babban Layi Quarters, Dala LGA, Kano State in possession of a Pump Action Rifle. In his attempt to escape, the suspect sustained injuries and was rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital Kano, where he was treated and released to the Police for investigation
“On preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to have committed series of Armed Robberies alone for over two years in Kano and Niger State. He claimed to have gotten the Pump Action Rifle during one of his armed robbery operations in Niger State
“The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, fsi (Nagari-Nakowa) has ordered that the case be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Command for discreet investigation. Suspect will be charged to court upon completion of investigation
“The CP thanked the good people of Kano State for their continuous support and cooperation. He urged residents to continue to prayer and to report incidences to the nearest Police Station and not to take laws into their hands.”
