[News] Police to investigate its officers accused of beating first class graduate to death in Delta

The Nigeria Police Complaint Response Unit says an investigation has been launched into the alleged killing of a first-class graduate of the Delta State University DELSU, Omiragua Oghenetejiri Joel, by men of the state police command.

The unit received a petition that was shared by a Twitter user, @AmosEtin, and reshared by singer Rugged man.

According to the petition, Joel and his girlfriend were arrested by RRS officers in Asaba. The petitioner alleged that the police officers tried to force him to admit he was found with a gun on him but he refused. The petition claimed Joel was beaten up until he died. According to the petitioner, when the police officers found out that Joel had died, they took his girlfriend who had come in from Lagos to the motor park and issued a stern warning to her never to return to the state. The petitioner alleged that it was the girlfriend who brought the alleged killing to light.
