[News] Rivers state govt begin demolition of assembly complex as pro-Fubara lawmakers meet and declare seats of 27 lawmakers who defected to APC vacant

The Rivers state government has begun the demolition of the state House of Assembly. Tractors and caterpillars from the state government stormed the complex and began to pull the structure down.

Recall that the state House of Assembly was gutted by fire in October the same day that some of the lawmakers said to be loyal to the former governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, had concluded plans to impeach the state governor, Sim Fubara.

On Tuesday, December 12, a High Court sitting in Port Harcourt under the seal of Hon. Justice M.W.Danagogo restrained Martin Amaewhule and Dumle Maol from parading themselves as Speaker of the House of Assembly and affirmed Rt. Hon. Edison Ogerenye Ehie, a loyalist of Governor Fubara, as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly. The Presiding Judge in an Experte motion warned against the use of Thugs and Police officers to forcefully gain access to the premises of Rivers State House of Assembly Complex.

Meanwhile, lawmakers loyal to the state governor are currently meeting at another location. Ehie has declared the seat of the 27 lawmakers that defected to APC as vacant.
