[News] Soldiers batter LASTMA officer in reprisal attack

Yet to be identified soldiers, in the early hours of today, August 14, pounced on one of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, officers, at the Ojota area of the state, beating him to stupor in what appears to be a reprisal attack.

Recall that last week, a video went viral showing an army officer fighting with a LASTMA official. It is unclear what led to their clash but the viral video showed the LASTMA officer hitting the soldier with his club and then both men had a fight.

In a video that has gone viral, soldiers numbering eight with makeshift masks on their faces, got hold of the LASTMA officer and beat him for several minutes. One of the irate soldiers was seen battering the officer to the ground as other LASTMA officers fled the scene.

Confirming the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Bolaji Oreagba, through the Director Operations, Mr. A. Peter, said

“We have reported the incident to the higher authorities of the army. They are already intervening in the matter. We will update you in due course. The act is totally condemnable.”
