President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the bomb attack that claimed lives in Turkey.
At least 6 people died and several were injured when a bomb exploded at about 4:20pm local time on a busy shopping street in the Taksim Square area in central Istanbul.
Nigerian President Buhari, in a reaction to the incident, “expressed the shock and sadness of the Nigerian people over the incident”.
He assured “the Turkish President, Recep Tayyep Erdogan, that the government and people of this country will continue to support them in the global war against terrorism.”
President Buhari said: “The thoughts and prayers of the government and people of Nigeria are with the families of the innocent people killed and we wish full and speedy recovery to those injured.”
The President’s condemnation of the bomb attack was disclosed via a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu.
Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay said the authorities believe that a woman detonated the bomb.
The CCTV footage analyzed shows her sitting on a bench for more than 40 minutes.
The suspect, under investigation, left a bag behind which exploded minutes after she walked away.
