A video of the Former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, ordering traditional rulers to get up and greet him at a public event has gone viral.
In the video where he spoke in Yoruba language, the ex-president stated that when he was still ruling, he prostrated to greet kings and he expects the same for rulers now that he has retired. He said that anywhere a Governor or President is, Kings are expected to stand up to greet him.
‘’”Please you Kings. Thank you for coming but let me say something. Wherever a governor or a President is, there is no King there. You must stand up for the governor or the President. Stand Up!” he shouted
The monarchs had no choice but to stand up, after which he asked them to sit down. He went on to state that in Yorubaland, they reverence two things, age, and position. He said a governor is more powerful than any monarch.
‘’The governor’s position is a more powerful position than any monarch. “Even when I was president, I prostrate to show respect to monarchs. But in the inner room, the monarch prostrate to me,” he said
