[News] Arsenal 0-0 Manchester United : Rivals share the spoils despite entertaining match

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made five changes to the side that previously lost against Sheffield United with Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelof returning to the defence, Scott McTominay and Fred back in midfield and Edinson Cavani leading the line in attack as they played out a goalless draw with Arsenal  at the Emirates on Saturday evening, January 30, after both sides had chances to win the game.

The Gunners made one change after losing Bukayo Saka to injury while Gabriel Martinelli was drafted into the side while new signing Martin Odegaard was named on the bench.

United dominated much of the opening period, as Fred had his curled effort  tipped just wide by Bernd Leno.

Except a break forward when Lacazette shot straight at David De Gea on the 15 minute, it was pretty much all United had for the opening 25 minutes.

Rashford had his ball just taken off his toe in the area thanks to Martinelli’s diving header, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka rose to meet a cross from Shaw but it wasn’t that threatening.

Pogba then put Fernandes through on 34 minutes and, after cutting inside David Luiz, Fernandes’ shot curled inches past the far post.

United lost McTominay before the break due to stomach cramp, and as half-time approached, Rashford missed his shot when he was found by Shaw just yards from goal.

Arsenal coach, Mikel Arteta introduced Willian at the start of the second half and on the 49th minute, a ball from the right eluded Wan-Bissaka but he responded well to make a superb point-blank block to deflect the Brazilian’s effort wide.

Within minutes of the hour-mark, United looked certain to score when a brilliant one-two between Martial and Shaw on the left side of the box led to Shaw firing a cross to Cavani whose drive was deflected.

On the 65th minute, Lacazette crashed a free-kick on De Gea’s crossbar, much to the satisfaction of United fans.

De Gea then also saved a shot from Smith Roe.

Both sides  tried to score with few minutes left but at the end shared the spoils.
