[News] Former Boston Bruins NHL star, Jimmy Hayes dies suddenly at home hours after celebrating his son’s birthday

Former NHL star, Jimmy Hayes – best known for playing for the Boston Bruins – has suddenly died at his home aged just 31.

Hayes , a married father of two – was pronounced dead at the scene of the property in Milton, a suburb of Boston, after emergency responders were called on Monday morning.

A law enforcement official told the Boston Globe that the professional sportsman’s death is not being treated as suspicious, although no further information on a cause of death has been released.

There is no indication that Hayes had been ill in the hours before he died. He and his wife Kristen had been celebrating their son Beau’s second birthday Sunday, and Kristen had shared an Instagram post around midnight showing them playing arcade games.

Hayes, a 6-foot-5-inch, 215-pound right winger, played 334 games in the NHL for four teams, including the Bruins from 2015-17. Hayes, a 6-foot-5 right wing, was drafted in the second round (60th overall) in 2008 by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

During his time at Boston College, Hayes contributed to the team’s second straight NCAA title, scoring 13 goals and registering 22 assists in 42 games his sophomore year.

He made his NHL debut in December 2011 after a trade to the Chicago Blackhawks, before playing for the Florida Panthers, where he enjoyed his most successful spell, scoring 19 goals and 16 assists in 72 games.

After three years in Florida, he sealed a dream move to his boyhood, the Boston Bruins, in 2015. He had 15 goals and 33 points in 133 games for them before moving on to play for the New Jersey Devils.

In total, Haynes scored 54 goals and 109 points for all teams. He retired in 2019 after playing in the AHL.

After retirement, he cohosted a podcast with fellow former NHL players Shane O’Brien and Scottie Upshall called ‘Missin Curfew.’

His last appearance on it was on August 5.
