[News] Suspected thief beaten and macheted by angry mob in Ondo

A suspected thief was apprehended by an angry mob at Ajilo in the Ondo West Local Government area of Ondo State.

It was gathered that the suspect was spotted by security men guarding a compound when he attempted to gain entrance into the building in the early hours of Saturday, February 24, 2024.

The suspect reportedly took to his heels but was caught by the angry mob who macheted him.

A witness, who identified himself as Ibukun, said the mob beat the suspect blue and black, with sticks and cutlasses till he could not walk again and also tore his clothes.

He said the mob cut him with the cutlass all over his body and ran away, adding that the incident happened around 6:30am.

The witness stated that the suspect alongside his accomplice had burgled the building thrice and escaped because it was a lonely place as the owner is not in Nigeria.

The suspect, who identified himself as Ismail Makinde, claimed to be a timber operator and that he was looking for his boss in the area.

“I came to work in Ondo from Osun State. I stay in Ode-Omu, Osun State. I came to look for my boss in Ondo, but I didn’t know where he was staying. So, my mind told me to enter the building and the security men attacked me while my friends ran away,” he said.

“I am a timber operator. I work at Obete. I don’t know how I got here when we came back from Osun State yesterday. We slept in a bush till the following day before the incident happened.”
