Everton midfielder, Gylfi Sigurðsson has been revealed as the married footballer being investigated for alleged child sex offences.

 

It was first reported on Monday night, July 20 that an Everton footballer was arrested on suspicion of committing child sex offences and released on bail pending further investigation.

 

The player had his home raided by police and was arrested on Friday.

 

Everton released an official statement on Monday evening confirming they had suspended a footballer and will assist the police with any enquiries.

 

The statement on the club’s official site read: “Everton can confirm it has suspended a player pending a police investigation.

 

“The Club will continue to support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time.”

 

According to Icelandic site,  mbl.is, Gylfi Sigurðsson is the footballer under investigation by the police in Manchester due to an alleged sexual violation against a child. This was also confirmed by Vísir.

 

British newspapers Daily Mail and The Sun, among others, had reported the arrest without naming the footballer due to their media laws.

 

It was stated that the Everton player in question is married, 31 years old, and plays regularly with his Icelandic national team. Sigurðsson is 31 and is married to Icelandic beauty queen, Alexandra Ívarsdóttir.
